SATTU SHARBAT

Sattu Sharbat is a traditional, refreshing and highly nutritious summer drink made from roasted gram flour (sattu), popular in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. It’s known for its cooling properties and is packed with protein, fiber, and minerals.
There are two main variations: sweet and savory (salted/spiced). Here’s how to make both:
π§ Savory Sattu Sharbat (Spiced)
π₯ Ingredients (1 serving)
- 2 tbsp sattu flour (roasted gram flour)
- 1 glass cold water (approx. 250 ml)
- ΒΌ tsp roasted cumin powder
- Β½ tsp black salt (or to taste)
- 1 green chili β finely chopped (optional)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp finely chopped onion (optional, for a desi touch)
- Few coriander leaves β chopped
- A pinch of black pepper powder
π₯€ Method
- In a bowl, mix sattu with a little water to make a smooth paste (prevents lumps).
- Add the rest of the cold water and mix well.
- Stir in salt, cumin powder, lemon juice, and other ingredients.
- Mix thoroughly and serve chilled. Garnish with coriander if desired.
π― Sweet Sattu Sharbat
π₯ Ingredients (1 serving)
- 2 tbsp sattu flour
- 1β2 tbsp jaggery (or sugar) β adjust to taste
- 1 glass cold water
- Β½ tsp cardamom powder (optional)
- A few drops of lemon juice (optional)
π₯€ Method
- Dissolve jaggery/sugar in a little water first.
- Mix sattu flour with the sweetened water to form a smooth paste.
- Add the remaining cold water and cardamom powder.
- Stir well and serve chilled.
